Healthy Relationships Help Kids Thrive
Every child deserves to feel safe, supported and valued. Research continues to show that healthy relationships with caring adults and peers play a powerful role in helping children and adolescents build resilience, navigate challenges and grow with confidence.
A recent article from the Positive Experience Center highlights how safe and nurturing relationships are one of the key building blocks that help children heal from difficult experiences and develop the skills needed to thrive. When young people have trusted adults and positive peer connections in their lives, they are more likely to feel connected, supported and empowered.
At Girls on the Run, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Through caring coaches, supportive teammates and intentional lessons, participants build meaningful connections while developing important life skills like empathy, confidence and emotional resilience. Our programs create spaces where girls can be themselves, strengthen friendships and learn they belong.
Research reinforces the importance of these experiences. Children and youth who have supportive relationships with adults are better equipped to manage stress, overcome adversity and develop resilience. Positive connections with peers, families, teachers and mentors are also linked to improved mental health, increased confidence and stronger social-emotional skills.
Creating environments where children feel heard, encouraged and connected can make a lasting impact. Whether through family relationships, school communities, sports or after-school programs, every positive interaction helps build a foundation for lifelong well-being.
